It's Friday!

TGIF! Friday is here! WOOHOO!!! Ready for the weekend? I am meeting with a health coach client this afternoon, then dinner with hubby and friends. Tomorrow is a much-needed hair cut and color. Other than that, there are no big plans for the weekend. If it is pretty, maybe I will get some pool time in.

Let me tell you about Yoga & Hoops. It was FABULOUS! A 75 minute workout and yes I am sore today. Since last night was the first class, we did things a little differently. We started with just some regular yoga warmup poses and sequences. Then we started hula hooping. Most of us took a few times (or more) to really get the hang of it again.

We had to hoop with the hoop going in our dominant direction, but then going opposite as well. We practiced with our legs in a wide stance and with our legs together. We also changed where we had our arms. Then we did “hand hooping”. Twirling the hoop on just one hand (or two). This was surprisingly easy for me, in both directions with either hand. This is a great exercise for your arms. After hooping, we went back to more yoga. Next week we will start incorporating the hoop with yoga poses. Imagine warrior pose while twirling the hoop overhead. There were five of us in the class and we all had a blast.

The hoops were fairly large. Apparently the perfect size is a hoop that comes up to your belly button. Who knew? These were actually hand-made and decorated hoops. If I am still enjoying this at the end, I might have to buy me one. The instructor did caution us about practicing in our homes. Definitely a wise suggestion.

Before class I walked for a little over a mile, so I definitely got in a good workout yesterday. Either tomorrow or Sunday I will get in another walk and work on my arms. It is so wonderful to be exercising again. I am so looking forward to Tina’s bootcamp starting on June 17th. Don’t forget there is still time to register.

  1. I love the sound of your Hoops and Yoga class! I keep saying that I need to bust out my hula hoop…
    This weekend starts our family vacation!!! A whole week at the beach! I’ve been ridiculously excited about this. The I-can’t-sleep-I’m-so-excited kind of excited. I’ve never been this excited about a family vacation before. Maybe because the kids are bigger now and this year will be a little easier than previous years? I can’t wait!!

    My What’s Beautiful goal race is tomorrow. I haven’t planned or even thought of beyond that 🙂

    Sounds like fun! I don’t know if I’m coordinated enough for warrior while spinning a hoop…warrior is hard enough to hold on its own! Although maybe the hoop would distract me from the pain? LOL!
