Monday Musings . . .

Happy Monday! Here we go again! If you have not been looking at a calendar, this coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. Time to shop and plan lunch/dinner if you live near your Mom. We are continuing our tradition of a crab and shrimp boil with both Moms. We are so fortunate to have both nearby. Here are some pics from the previous years:

Last night, hubby, our friend A, and myself headed to our favorite Mexican place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Here are a few of the delicious eats and drinks we enjoyed!

Time to get back on track today after overindulging yesterday. Best way to start back on track (at least for me)? Drink TONS of water. I am planning two short (and slow) walks this week and a stretching class at the gym. My leg is feeling a little better, but my foot is still having unexpected (and unwanted) side effects.

The IIN Live Conference is over. It was an information filled two days. I thoroughly enjoyed some speakers and others were just so-so in my book. That’s why IIN stresses bio-individuality – everyone is different. My absolute favorite speaker of the conference was Keri Gans, author of The Small Change Diet:

Her book is based on these ten small steps:

1. Create a healthy eating schedule
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables
3. Cut empty beverage calories
4. Increase fiber intake
5. Reduce the undercover calories of dressing and sauces
6. Eat leaner meats
7. Find the right fats and lose the bad fats
8. Curb sugar and salt cravings
9. Stay healthy in social situations
10. Exercise

One thing she said that really resonated with me as a health coach is to not judge other people’s goals and why they have that goal. It reminded me of this:

  2. I ran a half yesterday and haven’t been able to stop eating!!!! I indulged in an apple croissant this morning. Definitely more water and fruits and veggies on tap this week. Of course, after the half I am going to treat myself more than once!
