2014: My Healthiest Self Ever

The new year is here, most everyone is returning to work from the holidays, and lots of people, myself included, have set goals for 2014. But what do we call them? Goals? Intentions? Promises? I found these definitions in the dictionary:

Goal: something that you are trying to do or achieve
Intention: the thing that you plan to do or achieve : an aim or purpose
Promise: a statement telling someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen in the future

I think any of these will work or even a combination of all three. Personally, I like intention and goals.

My intention for 2014 is to be my healthiest self ever.

My Healthiest Self Ever

I am starting 2014 down 10 pounds from 2013. While not as much as some people may have lost, I feel great about it. Also, since I have steadily been gaining about 10 pounds per year, to have gone the opposite direction is a HUGE success.

I am not setting an ultimate goal weight as I want to find my “happy” weight. I am also not doing any pills, supplements, starvation diets, restrictive diets, etc. I will be learning more about and utilizing Intuitive Eating. I will eat what I want, when I want and start to make overall healthier choices. However, if I want a cheeseburger, better to have one, then binge on 12. You may wonder why I am so gung ho on this – when I started learning to eat intuitively was when the scale finally started going in the direction I wanted.

I am also super excited about my new gym and cannot wait to start working out there. It is a HUGE gym with tons of classes, equipment, etc. I know that variety is best for me as far as workouts are concerned, so for January I want to try as many new workouts or machines as possible. I hope to find at least one yoga class a week that meets my schedule and get back to a regular yoga routine. I want to try Body Pump, Body Combat, PiYo, and more.

While I set 12 goals for 2012 and 13 goals for 2013, I am not setting 14 for 2014 goals. That was too many large goals for me. Instead, I am going to set monthly goals to help with my overall yearly intention of being my healthiest self-ever.

January Goals:

  • Back on track with water intake – at least 68oz per day
  • Workout 4 times per week (ideally at new gym when it opens)
  • Walk a 5K (goal is to walk one 5k a month for 2014)

I am excited to say I started out 2014 with a fantastic 5K:

New Year's Day 5K

It was my fastest 5K in well over a year (since before both surgeries). A couple of things helped me get this time – walking with my friend J, the COLD weather, and a fairly flat course. Great start to the year!

How do I see 2014 ending? With me feeling strong, toned, and happy.

What are your goals/intentions for 2014?

Have a healthy day!

  1. If you normally gain 10 pounds per year and you lost 10 last year, that’s like losing 20 pounds – πŸ™‚ Good job – good luck to a healthy you.

  2. Great goals! Way to break it down into a few specific tasks for January to make it more attainable and less overwhelming!

  3. I don’t have big goals, but I am refocusing on making healthy choices consistently every day, and I have my “healthy list” (which has been the same for about a year now).

    Wishing you a happy & healthy 2014!

  4. Such a positive attitude and I’m so inspired πŸ™‚
