450+ Miles Walked & Biked in 2011!

Sigh. Back to work today. It was a wonderful 4 days off, but I must return to work. Luckily I only work 4 days, then we get a 3 day weekend. WOOHOO!!!

Yesterday was my first walk with my new Garmin Forerunner 410 (Christmas gift from hubby). Even though it was overcast and COLD, it was great to get outdoors for some activity. We have been inside so much with Christmas events.

My workout assignment was to do 30 minutes cardio (interval training). I decided to keep going until I had walked a 5K. I have signed up for a 5K on New Year’s Day and wanted my body to get ready. There were times when I just wanted to stop, but checking the status on the Garmin made it kind of fun.

When I got home, my 410 wirelessly uploads the data to my computer. Here is a snapshot of just some of the information it logs for me.

And with the 3.1 miles walked today, I have surpassed 450 miles for 2011.

For someone who in 2010 did very little physical activity, 450 miles seems HUGE. The fun part is it may be more like 500 miles. Apparently I was very lazy with logging during March and April. Oh, well. I am currently assessing my goals for 2012.

  1. That’s awesome! I’ve seen several tweets over the past few days about setting mileage goals for the year and I am thinking about setting a goal for myself for 2012. Since I’ve never done something like that before, I’m considering doing a small goal. I’m thinking that if I do 240, which is 20 miles a month, that would be attainable. I know that it’s less than a mile a day, but it’s a good place to start. Good luck with your 5K on New Year’s Day!
